Our new album ‘He Who Saw the Deep’ is written, recorded and ready to see the light of day. It is a progression from what has gone before it. Whilst still very much an I LIKE TRAINS record, we have taken this chance to re invent. There is light and shade, hope and devastation, and we are taking a look at where we are heading instead of where we have been.

2. The Accidental remote Viewer
Part Two:
1. The Psychic Circle/Uchronia

4. Moscow Signal

On part one, the 41 minute “Our man from Centauri” sets the stage, a cosmic, sprawling opener with themes that continue on into “The accidental remote viewer”, before fizzling out into static. Part two is comprised of nine beautiful and intense tracks (particular stand-outs including “The Psychic Circle/Uchronia”, “The storm of resurrection”, and “Solar flares”). Lovely and intricately woven as ever, while frequently heading off into new and challenging sonic territory, Mehdi and Solange have created yet another very special work of musical art with The Centauri Agent!

My Education – Sunrise [Strange Attractors, 2010]

•September 14, 2010 • Leave a Comment

Tracklist:
1. Sunset
2. City Woman
3. Lust
4. Oars
5. Peasant Dance
6. A Man Alone
7. Sunrise

Based on the band’s original score for F.W. Murnau’s 1927 silent film Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans, Sunrise is a marvelous adventure into off-kilter post-rock. The band pulls upon a decade’s worth of experience to create a soundtrack that is as hauntingly cinematic as it is blisteringly potent, all while not losing the core of its sound. Tracks like “Oars” and “Sunrise” are likely to be among the best any post-rock band will offer up this year, while gems like “Sunset” and “A Man Alone” flex the band’s diverse skill set. Whether or not My Education has grabbed your attention in the past, Sunrise cannot be missed.”

Greg Haines – Until The Point Of Hushed Support [Sonic Pieces, 2010]

•September 11, 2010 • Leave a Comment

Tracklist:
1. Industry vs. Inferiority
2. Marc’s Descent
3. In the Event of a Sudden Loss
4. Until the Point of Least Resistance

Greg Haines’ music is not subtle. The Berliner’s twisted new-classical compositions are all Sturm und Drang: shrieking violins, deathly funereal organ, and haunted banshee wailing, the darkest expression of instrumental music this side of Constellation Records. Until the Point of Hushed Support is no Brian Eno affair; call it “Ambient #5: Music for Gulags.” While there are moments of stark, Stars of the Lid beauty, such as the restless feedback loops and rustling static of “In the Event of a Sudden Loss,” mostly this album is pretty bleak, Godspeed-style Gothic pomp.
